No, Republican Tony Gonzalez, the pencil brain from Texas. This would be the married father of six, three times elected to Congress who coerced a staff member into a sexual relationship. She later committed suicide. Here he was at work last Tuesday, before the truth became irrefutable and the polls sunk:
‘The three-term congressman has denied the affair and previously said on social media that he is being blackmailed and called the allegations a political smear.” The Guardian
Ummm…I think this is called lying?
And then they became public. Public Pivot:
“I made a mistake, and I had a lapse in judgment, and there was a lack of faith, and I take full responsibility for those actions…Since then, I’ve reconciled with my wife Angel. I’ve asked God to forgive me, which he has.”
Oh. So, if God has pardoned him who are we to bear a grudge?
How do guys like this get a direct and open line to God? You would think God would favor the mild and meek, not a real prize like Mr. Gonzalez. How in the world do you believe that God has pardoned you?
No, he didn’t have a lack of faith. A lapse in judgment implies you’re normally an upright and moral man. Honestly, it appears he was deeply flawed. He lied and cheated until he was found out.
I feel for the victim most of all. But then also, the families, the Moms and Dads. He will have the asterisk after his name forever. Public conviction for life.
And then we have Ms. Noem. For full disclosure, I’ve been to South Dakota, back in the day did business there. I can tell you that the people of South Dakota, at least in my experience, were kind, friendly, polite, and welcoming with an obvious common-sense morality that is typical of the Midwest. Nice people. They really don’t deserve what’s happening.
So, up comes Ms. Noem who had a world-class opportunity to shine. The President wants you to serve. Pinch yourself! Just do your job, be humble. You have 240,000 people reporting to you. It’s a full time (and then some) job! This is not about you; this is about the country. Do a great job and the future is wide open and bright! But, like Mr. Gonzalez, it appears Ms. Noem couldn’t keep a focus on her work, rather, batting eyelashes at Mr. Lewandowski and then starring in videos paid for by the taxpayer.
Bop. Back to Pierre.
After what will be a brief stop in her new role…
Director of Twisting in the Wind.
I think like me, you are frustrated, angry and dismayed by this stuff. How in the world do we get people like this into our national hair? Trump showed poor judgement with Noem. The constituents in Texas showed poor judgement with Mr. Gonzalez. I really don’t think in either case, they all knew what they were getting into.
I do believe when your hallmark phrase is “You’re fired!” it must be more than a punch line before a commercial break. The signs were there with Ms. Noem (the Coast Guard blanket issue being a precursor). I listened to her say that the President approved the ads, which he denies. I think at least he certainly saw them. But you’re supposed to show good judgment in whom you hire! And you’re supposed to show good judgement in how you act when given responsibility!
As for the Congressman, I just don’t get it. I really don’t. He had a very tough childhood and was raised by grandparents. He played by the rules, bootstrapped himself by first, the Navy, and then education at Georgetown, American Public University and is a PhD candidate at the U of Southern Mississippi. A wonderful American success story. So, I can see how he would be elected, yes. But then, this.
In both cases, sexual dalliance played a role. We’ve seen a lot of that lately. I watched some of Bill’s deposition, I’m not sure if the shaking hand was a health issue or nervousness. But I’m watching him, my contemporary, and wondering to myself…How did you get to become President and here you are now. Sitting in a hot tub as a guest of one of the most demented people any of us have even seen. Mr. Trump’s issues are well-documented and familiar.
The President of Ohio State University just blew his career out of the water with an “inappropriate” relationship with a podcaster. Seriously dude? You were President of a great and vast university and that wasn’t enough to keep you busy?
What did the Epstein guests actually do? Absent victims coming forward (a daunting prospect), or others making accusations, I’m not sure we’ll ever really know. Maybe nothing actually happened. In general terms we all know what went on but specific people are more difficult to parse absent direct and clear testimony. So, maybe everything happened. I’ve listened to some of the testimony.
I’m amazed. Every one of us (you and me) knows exactly what the deal was with Epstein and his guests and all of that. But it appears the only people who do not know, are not aware, are shocked and surprised, who are clueless and were blind to all of it…are the famous people who were there! Remember, these are among the savviest and most sophisticated people in the country.
I’ve written before about the nexus between sex, money and power:
“Sex Power Money and the Political Class” August 2025
You all get it. Ego-driven, weak characters and moral values, success giving them a feeling invincibility, that they are above the common masses.
And they are.
Until they aren’t.
Because fortunately, time outs the truth.
