The criticism I’ve heard about Trump attacking Iran is mostly based on “no imminent threat.” Legislators who got the classified briefing do not seem to share that view. But you know what? Iranians were enriching uranium. Why? What were they going to do with it? Develop a dental X-ray business?
And more, as we’ve seen, these guys were armed to their teeth. We’re speaking of thousands of missiles and drones and weapons and proxy forces. One does well to remember that Hitler armed himself to the teeth, and the feckless West decided there was no imminent threat.
Until there was. But then it was too late. The Europeans haven’t learned. The German diplomat said recently they were not going to help in the Hormuz Strait because “It’s not our fight.” His view is echoed across NATO. Which just points to another casualty of this war: NATO. It won’t survive in its present form. Its time has passed. They’re trying to go back track but everyone gets it. Of course I also believe that Trump’s ill-advised threats about Greenland opened him up to payback. And here we are.
Meanwhile, I guess they’re now coming around to the idea of “helping.” Great to have them aboard?
The oil situation will clear itself. As did some of you, I lived through the Arab Oil Embargo in the 1970’s. We survived that and came out stronger. As an aside, I would mention that here we have Iran dropping missiles on Arab countries, and their response is to issue press releases. I mean honestly, I have been more aggressive in our Woodpecker War than they’ve been with Tehran. Not kidding.
Here’s something I bet most people do not know: In broad terms, the United States doesn’t need the oil flowing through Hormuz. The United States is a net exporter of crude oil and has been now since 2020. What does Germany’s crude oil production total? They consume over two million barrels per day and produce 128,000 barrels per day. You don’t need a calculator to do the math or come to conclusions. Not their fight? Seriously?
Let’s just all hope we don’t get bogged down in Iran, but there are clear concerns…the Marines are on the way. But at least for sure, we do not have to worry about an Ayatollah dropping a uranium tipped missile on us. If he had, no doubt feckless politicians who had looked the other way would blame Trump for egging on the Iranians. That’s just how feckless people think.
The country is bitterly divided. Real Clear Politics polling totals:

On the Iran War:

I find the FOX News and CNN results at the bottom very interesting. Are you telling me your poll is unbiased? As a matter of fact, the bias is everywhere in what are supposedly unbiased polls. That’s terrible.
But the Republican base hovers around 40%+ and the Dems similar and those people are not going to be moved by events. Which leaves the swing voters who can be. However, this tells me to ignore headlines like “Trump Approval Plummeting.” He has his posse, it ain’t gonna change. Moving onto 2028:
2028:

I find the Harvard-Harris poll curious. Are they saying that nearly 30% of Republicans are ready to usher in Trump Jr.? Seriously? And are those Reps really saying that Trump Jr. would make a better President than Rubio or DeSantis or Vance? I’m suggesting they need to prepare for the long fade of the MAGA movement. It had its time and place, but it’s not a permanent way to run the country.
Well, it’s Vance’s to lose and the Dems are wide open for change. I’m sorry, but…are nearly 10% of Democrats ready to hand the nuclear football to AOC? Hunh?
Interesting dynamic playing out in New York. The Socialist Mayor wants to, of course, bust his budget with new spending. Never mind its already in deficit. But in order to get the money, he has to get it from New York State. So, he wants Hochul to support a tax increase. Honestly, these people have no sense of a Dollar because they inevitably spend other people’s Dollars.
Now the Governor said, in 2022:
“And we are here to say that in the era of Trump, just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong, OK? Get out of town. Because you do not represent our values. You are not New Yorkers.” Fox
Well, it appears that people listened because she said this last week:
Hochul, speaking during a Politico event this month, said “high-net-worth” people need to stay in New York to support the “generous social programs we want to have in our state. There are some patriotic millionaires who stepped up. OK, cut me the checks if you want to be supportive — but maybe the first step should be to go down to Palm Beach and see who you can bring back home, because our tax has been eroded.” ditto
Imagine: They could recruit Antifa to form a kind of ICE For Millionaires and then spread out along Worth Avenue, collaring anyone in Fendi or Gucci and dragging them back to Albany.
“OK sir, say forget about it.”
“Fugettaboutit”
“Cuff him Joe.”
Well, the Governor’s problem is she is presiding over a $260 Billion budget which is also now in deficit. And if she raises taxes across the State, she will erode her support and possibly lose the election in November (this is something I give more than a 50/50 probability to, BTW). So, she is stuck and he’s stuck:
“”Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people’s money.” Margaret Thatcher 1976
Not the first time you have read that here.
But the result is…it is moving her toward the Center. It is another example of that taking place now.
Now honestly, I think the Governor should come down to Tallahassee and attend a DeSantis seminar on good governance.
Because Florida is running a budget surplus.
Without any income tax.
Yes…it can be done.
