Good news.
More and more evidence the country is climbing down from its far-Left and far-Right fixation and moving toward the center. The evidence is everywhere, but the phenomenon not well-reported. Here, some examples:
CBS has decided on a major revamp of 60 Minutes. Increasingly defined by Scott Pelley’s vitriol against his employer and the Trump administration, it’s become clear that 60 Minutes, in its present form, is simply not appealing to probably half the potential audience. Money tends to crowd out avowed political viewpoints in the media.
Here was NY Governor Hochel in 2022:
“And we are here to say that in the era of Trump, just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong, OK? Get out of town. Because you do not represent our values. You are not New Yorkers.” Fox
And now, in 2026:
Hochul, speaking during a Politico event this month, said “high-net-worth” people need to stay in New York to support the “generous social programs we want to have in our state. There are some patriotic millionaires who stepped up. OK, cut me the checks if you want to be supportive — but maybe the first step should be to go down to Palm Beach and see who you can bring back home, because our tax has been eroded.” Politico
Right. Chase the customers out of the store and then ask them to come back and shop. And give you a $260B budget to manage. Good one.
And this…
“An Axios report published March 29 revealed that some top Democrats are quietly debating whether their best bet for 2028 is to nominate a straight, white, Christian man, with fears that parts of the electorate are too biased to support a woman or diverse candidate. Several Democratic strategists bluntly told Axios “It has to be a white guy.”
Well, you know, everyone seems to be biased about something. There are voters too biased to support a woman or a diverse candidate. Yes. We all know this. Correct. There are voters too biased to vote for a straight, white, Christian male also. What the leak (if true) is saying, is that the Dems might be coming around to the fact that harnessing the future to a fixation on identity politics is not going to sell very well, and they need to temper (or ignore) the more extreme aspects of their Party. If they’re going to have a chance. So, shift toward the center.
Me, personally, would have no difficulty at all in voting for a woman, or voting for a diverse woman. But she doesn’t get my vote simply by her identity. No more than I’m going to vote for a straight, white Christian male because of his identity. Just give me the best candidate. I honestly believe most of us are like that.
And on the Right, there seems to be new push-back coming at the President for his comments on Iran, especially on Easter Sunday. That it comes in the middle of a war, is notable, because that’s when partisans typically circle the wagons. But again, a move toward the center.
Project Hail Mary, is the new sci fi winner. More, it’s garnered a 95 on Rotten Tomatoes. We went to the movie. I won’t review it (too many spoiler alerts), we both gave it a B-, just to say we weren’t goggle-eyed about it, but we did enjoy it. Anyway, what was so refreshing was not to be preached at. It was a feel good, aspirational, sci-fi adventure story and they stuck to that.
Compare to the most recent Oscar winner, the preachy One Battle After Another which appears to be stuck around a breakeven, financially. Project Hail Mary is crushing it at the box office. One thing I can absolutely guarantee…when Hollywood smells the money, they pull out the ketchup. We’ll see a shift toward feel-good movies now. Movies bringing us together, not tearing us apart with stretched victimhood or environmental finger wagging at their center. Thank goodness! Won’t leave the theatre feeling badly/guilty/out of sorts.
Just in general terms, seeing all kinds of shifts in media everywhere. It seems as though a lurch toward the center occurs every time we read about new people coming in to manage news organizations, rejiggering of newsroom staffing, directional change. Simple example, the Washington Post moved toward the center. Left commentators “blamed” Bezos for “caving into” Trump. Me, I think a guy who has spent his entire life getting rich made an economic decision. He saw the straws waving in the wind, and he moved toward his checking account. Which is more in the center than at the extremes.
Fox is an exception because I think they feel they “own” the anti-Left audience and are content to keep chipping away at customers from Left-leaning media. I would just mention that I watched Hannity’s interview with DeSantis and I found Hannity irritating. Somewhat imperious and smug (and interrupting!). They need to be careful over there. Audiences are fickle.
And finally:

Here, we are gleeful:
“Just before the Golden Globes, he told reporters that running for office “isn’t on my game card right now, but who knows — you never say never,” and criticized both major parties as “completely captured by corporations.” TV Insider
Oh oh oh! Please run! We need good material. And don’t feel insulted, but I would offer that the major parties are controlled by their members, the voters who elect the elected. And a favor? If you could don an Incredible Hulk costume on the campaign trail, I think that would get you a lot of clicks. We promise to cover it!
Here was a good one. Ruffalo commenting on taxes:
On February 24, Ruffalo posted a video on social media calling on New York Governor Kathy Hochul to impose higher taxes on billionaires and corporations, promoting a “Tax the Rich & Demand an Affordable NY” rally in Albany.
This was a shift, having eliminated ‘millionaires’ from his laser sight in earlier commentary.
MR: And! We need to go after the millionaires and billionaires who are sucking the life blood out of our country!
His Agent: (whispers) Uhhh, Mark?
MR: And those blood sucking corporations, those too!
Agent; (whispers) Uhhh, Mark?
MR: And then, the two parties who are controlled by the blood suckers!
Agent: (whispers heatedly with MR)
MR: (whispers) What? Hunh? You sure? I am?
Agent; (vigorous nodding)
MR: Hey gang? Corrections! We need to go after the billionaires but not the millionaires. Let’s leave the millionaires alone. And we need to go after the corporations, but not the ones in the film industry. Not them.
My advice to Mr. Ruffalo along with all the other tax-the-rich types who would throttle capitalism and bring on the Socialist/Communist state:
No need to wait! You can write out a check today and pay whatever level you would like to see others pay. You know, put your money where your mouth is.
Set the pace as it were.
